 …visits from aliens, as depicted by science fiction and Hollywood, are just not possible.

Films like Star Wars, Independence Day, ET, War of the Worlds and Star Trek are brilliant and absolutely fantastic fun. Nevertheless the fact remains that there are severe difficulties in believing that either (a) we can reach the aliens or (b) the aliens could reach us, even just the once.

Light speed may not even be fast enough to get us to planets that lay way beyond our own solar system And we are assuming here of course that there are aliens, there may be none. We will never know for certain unless an alien pops along and says “Nuqneh!”
